Why this issue matters

From the editorial file First appearance of Rick Grimes, October 2003, by Robert Kirkman and Tony Moore, in black and white with a modest first print run. The television series later turned this quiet launch into one of the most hunted modern keys.

Reading the story costs a fraction of owning the issue. Both routes are on every file.

Before you buy

  • Reprints abound: Image Firsts budget editions and anniversary printings look similar at a glance. Confirm first-print indicia before paying a first-print price.
  • Confirm which printing is being sold; later printings usually carry changed cover marks or indicia lines.
  • For variant covers, match the listing photo against the variant list on this page before paying a ratio-variant price.
  • Pressable defects (spine stress, corner blunting) matter to graders; ask for photos at an angle.
